Our Story

SUN PIE was created with a touch of ambition and despair.

The founder, Mr. Kelson Sun, was a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician from China who had a passion for life, freedom, and the pursuit of justice. His knowledge as a chief executive officer, a position requiring excellent leadership and communication skills, led to multiple companies’ expansion.

While his daughter was several months old, She fell severely ill. She was frequently hospitalized and twice close to death. He and the whole family suffered from the helplessness of the hospitals, including the top five ones from South China. They could not save his daughter’s life. Refusing to accept this news, he self-learned and eventually mastered traditional Chinese medicine.  He not only cured his daughter but also healed many other people and released them from the desperation of disease.

After resigning from the senior executive director position of the two largest Chinese real estate companies, Mr. Sun dedicated five years to practicing TCM. He healed thousands of people, made over 2000 loyal friends, and trained more than 200 TCM students to become traditional medicine doctors. He also invented treatments for eye diseases, an ointment for burns that prevents the need for skin grafting, and a bone-strengthening powder for osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease) patients.

Similar to his refusal to have his daughter taken by illness, he despised the Communist Party’s suppression of faith and speech. With the American dream in his heart, he left his career and assets in China, overcame obstacles due to the pandemic, and immigrated to the United States.

The transition, however, took time and work. Even though he was a qualified TCM practitioner in China, his lack of a U.S.-recognized education degree prevented him from acquiring an American acupuncture license or simply qualifying to sit for the licensure exam. To meet these requirements would mean a four-year commitment and a financial burden of $100,000—a hefty amount of money to afford to learn what he had already mastered. He also couldn’t accept that the educators would have less practical experience than himself.

He is licensed in Chinese TCM and wants to practice his expertise in Chinese herbal medicines with patients in U.S.  However, the scarcity and low variety of Chinese herbs in America posed a substantial challenge.

Due to these barriers, Mr. Sun temporarily put his medical ambitions aside, choosing instead to focus on financial stability. He aimed to amass sufficient funds to open an authentic TCM clinic staffed with licensed professionals who could apply his advanced medical techniques to their practice.

With this goal in mind, he started SUNPIE, fusing his extensive TCM and nutrition knowledge with the intrinsic qualities of Chinese food. The brand’s name, SUN PIE, isn’t just a copy of his surname; it reflects his core philosophy—sun for warmth, justice, and enlightenment.

The SUN PIE meat pie is envisioned to provide the same sense of comfort, friendliness, and nourishing balance he once offered through his healing practice, accompanied by the delight of insightful knowledge. Its filling is a flawlessly crafted blend of pork and beef, enriched with over a dozen spices and omega-3-laden vegetable oil—a perfect combination of carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and healthy oils to support one’s health by energizing the body and reducing the side effect of excessive sugar intake This comes from a Chinese medical philosophy to enhance the body’s ‘vital energy’ and ‘Yang’—a nod to TCM’s dietary balance of nurturing ‘yin’ with ‘yang’ and replenishing the body’s essence.

To maximize the meal’s health benefits, Mr. Sun also provides two tea drinks rich in Chinese characteristics accompanied by a pie made of two specially selected vegetables and meat dishes. This ensures a coordinated effect of vitamins, minerals, and trace elements. Tasty, nutritious, and easily digested—that’s the spirit of SUN PIE.

Founder Kelson Sun is filled with hope and passion. By providing healthy, nutritious, and tasty food, he aims to establish the best TCM clinic in the U.S., the finest health care center for the elderly, and a Christ-centered living community—realizing an American dream lived in Christ.

Amen.
